Meet Marisa Farrah, our passionate instructor who began her Pilates journey 15 years ago while recovering from hip surgery as a competitive athlete.

I started practicing Pilates with our very own Katie Thornhill 15 years ago while recovering from hip surgery on the recommendation of my physical therapist. As a competitive athlete, I had dealt with chronic pain and injuries since my youth, and Pilates not only supported my recovery but transformed my body as a whole. Even practicing just twice a week, I could see and feel differences in my core, posture, and body awareness. After trying countless workout modalities throughout my life, I found Pilates to be the most efficient and effective.

The most rewarding part of being a Pilates instructor is helping people discover their strength, manage pain, and simply feel better. Chronic pain is so common in our culture, and it’s often what brings people into the studio in the first place. Pilates is a movement, strength, flexibility, and balance practice that can truly feel like medicine. Great Pilates instruction teaches people how to move functionally with proper alignment and mechanics, tools they can carry into their daily lives, jobs, and the activities they love.

Pilates as a practice is vast, with endless equipment and props to challenge the body in new and creative ways, keeping it fun for both students and instructors. Personal Pilates Plus is a special studio with some of the best instruction out there. As Pilates has become big business in the last decade, many studios have become corporate, but PPP remains different, offering smaller classes, a more personal experience, and instructors who bring their unique perspectives to each class.

Something I often tell my students is: slow down, make your muscles work, and find that mind-muscle connection. After a good Pilates class, I feel more focused, taller, stronger, and happier—and that’s exactly what I aim to provide for my students.

Outside of Pilates, I love live music, being outside, and spending time with my family and friends.
